Phil Karp is an independent Citizen Scientist and Ocean Advocate, formerly with the World Bank.  He focuses on the interface between marine ecosystem conservation and the livelihoods of coastal communities.  He has been involved in work on control of invasive Lionfish since 2014, focusing in particular on market-based solutions including the establishment of Lionfish fisheries and the development of value-added markets such as Lionfish jewelry and handicrafts.  Phil has presented about Lionfish management at several international conferences and meetings including the 2014 Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute Conference, 2016 International Marine Conservation Congress, 2017 DEMA Lionfish Workshop, 2018 Smithsonian Earth Optimism Summit, and 2020 Global Coral Reef Week virtual symposium.  He also has been active in organizing programs to share knowledge and experience in managing invasive Lionfish across countries and regions.
