Christine Raininger – Lionfish Huntress Florida

Christine Raininger is a passionate ocean advocate and skilled diver dedicated to protecting Florida’s marine ecosystems. She is one of the Lionfish Huntresses of Florida, Christine has made it her mission to combat one of the region’s most destructive invasive species—the lionfish. With their voracious appetite and lack of natural predators, lionfish pose a serious threat to native fish populations and coral reef health. Christine’s efforts help restore balance to these fragile ecosystems.

Passion for Conservation

Christine’s work goes beyond removing lionfish. She transforms her hunts into conservation opportunities, using her experiences to educate others about the importance of marine stewardship. Whether speaking at local events or sharing stories with fellow divers, Christine inspires action and awareness about invasive species and ocean health.

Commitment to Clean Seas

While diving off the beautiful waters of Palm Beach, Christine doesn’t just spear lionfish—she also tackles another pressing issue: marine debris. From lost fishing lines laying over the reef, to plastic waste, Christine actively removes trash during her dives and stuffs that away safely in her zookeeper or clips it to the end of the dive flag reel, ensuring that Florida’s reefs remain vibrant and safe for marine life.

Leadership Underwater

As a certified Divemaster, Christine guides drift dives and mentors fellow divers in best practices for safe and effective lionfish removal. She also teaches techniques for underwater debris cleanup, empowering others to become active participants in ocean conservation. Reel it in for the Reefs is an annual event she participates in, but still picks up any time she can!

Why It Matters

Christine’s dedication reflects a broader vision: a cleaner, healthier ocean for future generations. Her hands-on approach combines ecological restoration, education, and advocacy, making her a true champion for Florida’s coastal environment.
